Everything You Need To Know About Fortnite's v10.40 Patch: Downtime, New Items, Map Changes And More

Fortnite's final big patch for Season 10 lands tomorrow. Here's everything you need to know about this update, as well as other big changes to come as we head toward Season 11.

Downtime for the v10.40 patch starts tomorrow morning at 4 am ET / 1 am PT and should last an hour or two.

Here's What To Expect

This latest patch will include a number of changes to the game. What we do know already is that Epic is implementing changes to Aim Assist and ADS, improving the options and accuracy of these mechanics.

The update will also add 'The Combine' to the Playlists section of the game, allowing you to test out your settings and practice your shooting, fine-tuning as you go along. Read more about that here.

A New Rift Zone

There's another Rift Beacon on Fortnite's map. It's near Junk Junction and it's already been activated, so expect that region of the map to transform somehow.

Dataminer @Asriel_Dev discovered a possible future challenge tasking players with finding a Visitor Recording in Gotham City or Starry Suburbs. The former is the newest Rift Zone in the game, added for the Batman event that's currently ongoing. The latter is . . . entirely new. There is no Starry Suburbs in Fortnite, so it's very likely that this will be the new Rift Zone.

That makes sense. We've seen lots of hints toward more space-themed content in the game. The new Zorgoton Area 51 skin and 'Team Space' emote, not to mention the fully-constructed rocket at Dusty Depot, all indicate some big confluence of space-age stuff coming to the game. Having a new space-themed location makes sense. I envision a town similar to Pleasant Park, but with Jetsons-style buildings and cars.

Weapon and Item buffs, nerfs and so forth.

We've seen major changes to Fortnite's meta in Season 10. The BRUTE mech was added and then nerfed to high hell. The dominance of the Combat and Drum Shotguns led to both weapons being removed from the game. Other weapons have been unvaulted.

We'll very likely see some more balancing, vaulting, unvaulting and so forth in tomorrow's patch, though it's impossible to say what might change. I'm not sure if there will be any new items added to the game as nothing has been announced at this point, and no leaks have emerged indicating the arrival of a new weapon or item.

Other Stuff

We'll have plenty of other stuff to look forward to, especially if you follow the dataminers. This includes, but isn't limited to:

  • A bunch of leaked skins and cosmetics that will probably (but not assuredly) land in the Item Shop over the next two weeks.
  • Leaked loading screens (which you can already view right here).
  • More information about the season-ending event that will likely involve the CUBE, the rocket, the Visitor, the orb over Loot Lake and who knows what else.
  • More hints at Season 11 and the possibility of an entirely new map (along with the addition of bots!)
  • As always, we'll be covering the new update tomorrow morning. If anything else comes up before then, I'll add it to this post.

We're nearing the end of the road here, folks. We know we have at least one (maybe two) weeks of challenges left in Season 10, as well as Overtime challenges (which may be the final week instead of a normal mission bundle). We know an event is coming very soon that will almost certainly make a huge impact on the game's future in 2019 and into 2020. Tomorrow is, in many ways, the beginning of the end.

But every ending marks a new beginning.
